Origami Cupcake... Now on Pinterest

I’ve already hopped onto the microblogging trend with my new Tumblr account, and after the great response I’ve decided to add Pinterest to the mix. It’ll be a lot of the same type of images: art, design and Japan, as well as anything cute or eye-catching. Please check it out!

My Social dropdown menu at the top of the screen is full of links, so there’s a ton of different ways to connect to me online now.  I’d also love to connect to you too, so if you’re on Pinterest (or Tumblr or deviantART) just share your details in the comments below and I’ll make sure to follow you back. Happy microblogging ♥

“Picnic on the Grass” Featured as a Daily Deviation

Yesterday I received a happy surprise when my artwork “Picnic on the Grass” was featured as a Daily Deviantion for the 17th of April, on DeviantArt. DeviantArt is a massive site with a lot of talented artists so I’m really happy to be singled out. But even more gratifying is all the positive feedback I received from people who saw my work.

A massive “Thank you!” is due to everyone who commented, faved or added me to their watch list. Everyday I work in relative isolation, so the unexpected attention and kind words left me smiling and blushing at my computer screen. While it might be a small thing to fave an artwork, getting that positive feedback is a reminder of why I’m doing what I do.
Thank you ^_^

Check out my DeviantArt profile here, and if you have a DeviantArt account of your own just list it in the comments and I’ll add you to my watch list.

Personal Announcement: I’m Back (Normal Broadcasting Will Resume Shortly)

So I’m back from my trip to the US. While I’d initially thought this trip would involve a lot of time in the Magic Kingdom, it ended up involving a lot less Disney and a lot more Japan. After putting up my earlier announcement we changed our plans to add a few days in San Francisco, which meant trips to Japan Town, New People, and San Francisco’s historic Japanese Tea Garden. If this sounds a bit one-sided I assure you I also did plenty of non-Japan related activities.

Since I’m a bit isolated here in Macedonia this trip was a great opportunity for me to visit some San Francisco galleries, meet people and discuss my work. In particular I have to make a shout out to  Micah Lebrun at 111 Minna Gallery for his comments and advice. All in all it was an amazing trip, but the constant running around, not to mention a grueling 48 hour transit time home, has left me exhausted. I promise normal broadcasting will resume shortly.

Picnic on the Grass: GelaSkin Phone Cover

I’m thinking about getting my artwork Picnic on the Grass printed as a custom GelaSkin cover for my new phone (even though it’s only a hand me down). To be honest I see so much of my own work that after a while I can’t bear to look at it, but I’m happily surprised by how slick and professional this design looks. Unfortunately you can’t buy this for yourself, for now at least it’s a one of a kind design just for me. Eat your hearts out.

As some of you may be aware, from the 16th to the 25th this month I’m jetting off to Orlando. It’ll be my first time visiting the US so I’m pretty excited, but unfortunately I now have a scary to-do-list of things that must be done before I leave. I’m going to try to squeeze in some time to queue up extra blog posts, but I honestly don’t know if I’m going to manage it. I apologize in advance to my regular readers (do I actually have any regular readers? ). In any case I hope to return soon with more art, design and Japan stuff.

With the new year I thought it’s time to update a few things.

In addition to my art, I’ve also been doing more design work lately. Doing things I’m not used to really challenges me, so I enjoy it a lot. While my art education revolved around traditional media, I’ve never been intimidated by computers. Since then I’ve learnt new skills, but it’s built on the strong base of drawing. Check out my Design Portfolio to sample some of my work.

In addition to my Design Portfolio, I’ve added new PDFs for download to my  curriculum vitae and artist’s statement:

Exhibition Mock-ups

I often wonder if visitors to this site notice that my works are “vector works, designed to be printed on a large scale”. In any case it’s hard to imagine the impact these images would have at that scale, when you’re looking at your monitor at home. That’s why I did some exhibition mock-ups for my Artist’s Statement. Hopefully I’ll be able to turn this into reality sometime soon ^^
